Monday, December 1st, in the season of Advent December 1, 2008

Jean Vanier, Founder of the L’Arche communities, shows us how community is built and sustained by the normal things of everyday life.  Though incarnation is hardly normal, our expectation grows inside us when we realize that Jesus came to normal people with normal rhythms.

“Community is established by the simple, gentle concern that people show each other every day. It is made of the small gestures, all the services and sacrifices which say “I love you” and “I’m happy to be with you.”
The more community deepens, the more vulnerable and the more sensitive its members become.”

  1. Peter Fitch Says:

I like several things about this:

    1) the notion of rhythms
    2) the ‘Little Way’ a la Therese de Lisieux
    3) the idea of being normal–what a stretch . . .
