The theological truth that Jesus has “felt our pain” has often been lost in the fuzz of corny teenage sermons.  Perhaps because the truth is so deep, it is easy to get nervous and back out into a trite and shallow version.  But there must be more to this.  Jesus, tempted in every way, betrayed by friends, tortured and killed.  Bernard of Clairvaux shares this,

“He wanted men to have no hesitation in entrusting their weaknesses to him, who was able as God to heal them and who wanted to do so as one close to them who understood because he had suffered the same weakness himself.”
